Passage: John 6:51-69
Sunday, August 18, 2024 - The Thirteenth Sunday of Pentecost
Pastor Bruce Johnson preached on "Honoring God with Our Bodies” based on scriptures Genesis 1:26-28, 31; Ephesians 5:1-20 and John 6:51-69.
For the next two Sundays in our worship, we will explore together what the Bible says about marriage, sex, and family. Our starting point will continue to be Paul’s letter to the Ephesians (chapters 4-6), where the apostle invites us to consider together a right understanding and faithful practice of our relationships of love and family. This Sunday, our focus will be on how we are to honor God and love others in these sexual bodies (5:1-20). Next Sunday, we will continue by looking at the ‘first institution’ of marriage and the household (5:21-6:9).
The hymns were I’ll Praise My Maker While I’ve Breath; Spirit of God, Descend Upon My Heart; and Take My Life, and Let it Be Consecrated.
For the Offering the Pender UMC Quartet directed by Jane McKee presented a breathtaking rendition of “Jesus the Boundless Love to Me” by Paul Gerhardt. This anthem is truly "love at first listen," offering a fresh and captivating setting of a cherished hymn of hope.
Whether you're a long-time member or seeking a new church home, we welcome you to experience a morning of renewal and commitment. Let's come together to discover how we can live out the new humanity Christ calls us to embrace.
