Hypothermia Update December 9, 2021

by Claire Anton on December 09, 2021

Dear Pender Family,

As you know, the winter can be a very difficult time for those persons that are housing insecure.  We are fortunate to have a wonderful organization in Northern Virginia that works with the county and the faith communities to provide shelter for those in our community with need during the winter.  As previously mentioned, Pender will take our turn hosting the program the Week of March 27th through April 1st, 2022.  I will be publishing a list of "needs" both support when our guests are in our building and material goods. Please put the date on your calendar so that this ministry is fully supported.

I have some good news! The county will allow us to serve our guests as usual as long as we are masked and gloved. We will need meals for breakfast and dinner prepared by groups and served. Lunches, will be bag affairs as in prior years. The Facets staff will be responsible for the evening fire safety walks but they would appreciate it if we can come for evening discussions with our guests, games, etc. They are also hoping that we might be able to help with transportation (this is new development). So if anyone would be interested in supporting the program in that way during our week (the church van is still available) I would appreciate it.

I will continue to keep you posted on the status of the program as I gain more traction with the event. Please continue to pray for those in need.

I have enclosed a link to an article on Facets, the group we are working with for the Hypothermia shelter program.
