Passage: Luke 21:25-36
Join Us for the First Sunday of Advent: Faith for the Future
On Sunday, December 1, we began the Advent season with a meaningful message of hope and faith. Pastor Bruce Johnson delivered a sermon titled “Faith for the Future” inspired by Jeremiah 33:14-16, 1 Thessalonians 3:9-13, and Luke 21:25-36, guiding us to reflect on God’s promises and prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ.
As part of our service, the Parker/Jones family led us in Lighting the First Advent Candle: Christ Our Hope, with a reading from Isaiah 60:2-3 to remind us of the light of Christ that shines even in the darkest times.
During the prelude to this service, the Pender Joy Ringers, directed by Brian Stevenson, played "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen."
Experience the energy and excitement of the Pender Joy Ringers as they performed an exhilarating arrangement of "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen" in a medley with "Sing We Now of Christmas." This performance captured the spirit of the season with a unique twist on these beloved Christmas tunes.
This dynamic piece, arranged for handbells by Kevin McChesney, features a predominantly 7/8 meter, giving the traditional melodies a fresh and engaging rhythm. A pulsing, malleted bass line drives the energy throughout, creating an electrifying accompaniment that will leave your audience enthralled and roaring in approval!
Whether you're a handbell enthusiast or simply love Christmas music, this performance is sure to delight and inspire your holiday season.
This special service marked the beginning of a season filled with anticipation, joy, and renewal.
Come join us as we journey together in faith and hope this Advent season.
