Missions Update, December 16, 2022

by Virginia Patch on December 16, 2022

Update from Chris and Charlie Hanak, Pender’s own homegrown missionaries.

“THE REST OF THE STORY”  (continued from last week- Charlie and Chris’s work in Paraguay)

Chris Hanak works with AFCI’s Women-to Women ministry, Focus on the Heart, writing curriculum and training national leaders to lead these courses for their own people.  Focus on the Heart is centered on practical ways that our hearts can experience the living reality of God in our lives from a foundation of Scripture.  The changes we experience are transformed relationships, genuine loving community, and freedom to live the truths we believe in.  Chris trained Emilia Monges in Paraguay who now leads this program.  During the pandemic, Emi made frequent visits to families and individuals to give them spiritual and emotional support.  She has continued to lead Focus on the Heart courses for a number of churches and schools in the Asuncion, Paraguay vicinity.

The 2nd program that Emilia Monges oversees, is the DORCUS sewing program.  Because so many women in the barrio are single mothers, there is a great need for skills that enable them to earn money to care for their children.  In Dorcus, they learn to use different classes of sewing machines and to make products to sell.  One woman is making dish cloths which she sells to help her family.  As a group, they made curtains for the ministry center.  They also have a time in each class where they learn about the Lord and what it means to live with Him.  There have been some wonderful answers to prayers in these groups.

Next week:  Chris and Charlie’s work in Peru.
