September 10th Revisited

JUST ANOTHER DAY
September 10, 2017
This devotional was originally sent out on September 10. 2017. You may remember reading it then. I have had several requests to send it out again.
September 11 is a date imprinted on our national consciousness and will never fade. But today is September 10, and that day stays with me, too. Perhaps that day was the last day of an era. On that day we were all just doing life with no idea what the next day would have in store for us.
September 10, 2001, was a perfect late-summer day, like the infamous day that would follow. New Yorkers went about their business, absorbed by the daily trials and rewards of life in the city. The baseball pennant races were on, important enough to make the front pages of the tabloids. The last thing I did that day was to make a plane reservation for a speaking trip the following week. I didn't give it a second thought. Why should I?
Since then, much of our life has changed. But on that September 10–we could not possibly have known what the future held. That's what stays with me about this day; it even haunts me–the complete uncertainty of tomorrow.
If we knew what was going to happen tomorrow, we might decide to stay in bed. We don't know the future. We are, however, given knowledge far more significant than the ability to see the future. We know, with the utmost certainty, that whatever the next day may bring, God is with us, today, tomorrow, and forever.
Jesus’ love and protection are the only things we can truly count on. It's always ahead of us, guiding our way through all uncertainty. What a difference a day can bring.
