C-Deco Mission

Charles Hanak, a missionary with Ambassadors for Christ International gives us this update on the C-Deco mission outside the city of Asuncion, Paraguay.  This project began in 2018 in an area with 3,000 plus new residents who have contracted with the local government to live on small plots for 5 years in order to own the land.  Since that time much progress has been made including the building of a meeting hall with a classroom, bathrooms and a kitchen equipped to serve large groups.  Throughout the last year, the C-Deco team continues to  receive many ministry volunteers from churches throughout the metropolitan areas of Asuncion. The expanded team has several ways to present the Gospel of Jesus including:

  • The Paraguay schools have been closed for two years due to Covid. During the week, children and youth are being taught to read and write with evangelistic teaching.   Bible classes are held for teenagers ages 12-15 on Saturday mornings.   There is a requirement that parents enroll their children and attend monthly classes on parenting with Christian ways to resolve family problems.
  • Classes are being held weekly to teach 14 adults how to use the computer. They practice typing using scripture verses along with simple life-related Gospel messages.
  • On Fridays, local youth meet to help with local missions.   First, they attend a discipleship class and then are led to help with a project.
  • Six home evangelism meetings are held throughout the week in the surrounding communities.
  • Through local donations of two boats and three nets, 7 young men now have employment by fishing in the Paraguay river.   The men put the fish in the freezer donated by a Paraguayan to C-Deco until they are sold.
  • Worship services & Sunday School are held on Sunday mornings with a growing number of people in attendance.
  • A ministry to teach women to sew has been started with 6 industrial sewing machines donated by Pender UMC.
  • Evangelism through the Alpha course. This was a life-changing experience for several of those who attended.  They came to know the Lord in a personal way and experienced the joy of a new life in Christ.  They now worship with the team and help them with their programs for children.
