Library: Collection Overview
The Pender Library collection is organized as a browsing library and books are shelved by theme. The classic Dewey decimal system is utilized for cataloging and database purposes and books are organized by call number within each theme. Books are currently being reviewed to determine their best location on the shelves and an easy, color-coded sticker system will soon aid users to find books more easily. Plans continue to create a robust database of the entire collection. A selection of titles to encourage and entertain. Includes humor and trivia books.
Books that equip Christians to love others better through their marriages, families, and friendships. If you have specific concerns, Pender’s Stephen Ministers are trained to support members through counseling and prayer.
CHRISTIANS AND SOCIETY
A Christian perspective on those cultural issues that often clash with traditional Christianity. Topics include the sanctity of life, abstinence, and media influence. A greater awareness of issues can equip a Christian to share God effectively.
A wide selection of inspiring books that aid the reader to grow in God. Varies titles explore how to experience God and expand a personal relationship with Jesus through the Holy Spirit.
In addition to Bibles in various translations, texts to help the reader know God better include concordances, commentaries, Bible dictionaries and atlases, and Greek word studies.
Genres include fantasy/science fiction, political drama, romance, and historical fiction all with a Christian subtheme.
THE LITURGICAL YEAR
The liturgical calendar divides the year into a series of seasons, each with their own mood, theological emphases, and modes of serving God through personal and congregational worship and prayer. These books focus on the meaning and celebrations from Advent through Easter.
MISSIONS AND EVANGELISM
Sharing God is key to making disciples for Jesus. These books give testimonies, advice, and encouragement to Christians who want to love others better in His name.
Understanding our roots is a great way to know God better. Books in this section provide a historical background to the early church, Protestant beliefs, and Methodism.
OTHER NATIONS AND FAITHS
How can Christians share the gospel better? Understanding the tenets of other belief systems builds a greater respect for others and a basis for sharing our faith with an affirmative approach.
Christianity has been reflected in art and music for centuries. This collection provides books about traditional and contemporary expressions of faith and worship through the arts.
Young and teen readers will find fiction titles that span from science fiction and suspense to historical drama. These books parallel many popular themes but from a Christian worldview.
